BIOGRAPHY

Born and raised in Romania during the final years of the communist era, Claudia Starkey developed a passion for creative experimentation as a form of self-expression and defiance against a restrictive environment. From winning national poetry competitions as a child to immersing herself in music, theater, and visual arts, Starkey’s early experiences laid the foundation for her multifaceted artistic journey.

Today, Starkey’s work in fine art photography is a bold exploration of the intersections between memory, technology, and the natural world. Her groundbreaking series, “Fragmented,” pushes the boundaries of visual storytelling by blending decades of personal photographs through a custom algorithm. This process creates surreal compositions that mimic the way memories are stored and reassembled in the human mind. Each image unfolds like a puzzle, inviting viewers to discover hidden patterns and dreamlike narratives. The series also showcases innovation in printmaking, with RGB light-responsive prints that shift dynamically with changes in light, offering an immersive experience that bridges art and technology.

Starkey’s photographic practice is deeply rooted in environmental awareness. Her collections often juxtapose the resilience of nature with subtle traces of human presence, exploring themes of transformation and impermanence. From decaying urban landscapes to fleeting moments in the natural world, her imagery reveals a poignant narrative about the delicate balance between humanity and its environment.

Beyond photography, Starkey has expanded into experimental short films and music videos, incorporating cutting-edge techniques to create her signature visuals. Her work frequently interrogates the role of artificial intelligence in art and society, posing critical questions about the ways technology shapes human connection and creative expression. Will AI serve as a mirror of human ingenuity or redefine the essence of interaction altogether? Starkey’s artistic vision thrives at the forefront of this dialogue, blending curiosity, innovation, and a fearless approach to storytelling.

Through her work, Claudia Starkey challenges traditional artistic boundaries, inviting audiences into a world where memory, technology, and the natural world converge. Her projects resonate with a generation seeking deeper connections and fresh perspectives in an era of rapid change and innovation.
